Nice weather we’re having. The perfect end to a strange few months of raging heat interspersed with lashing storms, this latest typhoon doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Our community columnist Dave has something to say about meteorological matters on his blog this week, while Ivan over in our music corner talks about Scissor Sisters.
Our nightlife expert Stella has been over to Shiva on Yongfu Lu this week, and actually kind of liked it. Read her review here. She’s also penned our latest batch of nightlife listings, which you can see here.
Don't forget - you can follow us on Twitter and join our Facebook group, and our newsletter will be back up and running soon.

In The Mood for Love This ballet adaptation of Wong Kar Wai’s 2000 movie is set, like the film, in Hong Kong in 1962. It charts the story of two neighbors who find solace in each other’s company when their respective spouses are busy doing other things. Expect scenery and costumes evocative of 1960s Hong Kong, plus some incredibly talented dancers. 280-680 RMB. Sep 3rd – 4th @ 7.15pm. Shanghai Oriental Art Center, 425 Dingxiang Lu. www.shoac.com.cn
Vivid as Fruit Contemporary artist Xu Di is no stranger to controversy. In his latest exhibition, he presents a series of photographic art that is as disturbing as it is striking. His human subjects have been doctored to give them the appearance of rotting away. Sep 3rd – Oct 12th. Vanguard Gallery, Rm. 204, Bldg 4A, M50, 50 Moganshan Lu. www.vanguardgallery.com What's On... DINING
The buzz: Cotton Ding, doyenne of the Shanghai bar “scene” and proponent of the converted villa = cosy wine bar with patio and fireplaces, has branched out into dining. Hunan House is her homage to her home province, and she’s filled her menu with spicy classics. Located down a lane off Fuxing Lu where Arugula used to be, Hunan House is opposite JZ and Boxing Cat, and just around the corner from the Yongfu Lu bar strip.Open Door: Hunan House
NIGHTLIFE
LIVING
Popular British high street brand Accessorize has landed in Shanghai in a rather low-profile way. There were no millions of posters around the city, no advertisement on the buses and no celebrities flying into town for its opening. Well, all the better for us - at least there is no 50-meter-long queue in front of the shop.Open Store: Accessorize
