OPEN BAR: GUANDI & 4K CLUB
Open Bar: Guandi & 4K Club
March 8th, 2010The buzz: Once a favorite of Shanghai's party animals and Chinese celebrities, Guandi in Fuxing Park is back in the game with a complete facelift and even a new name - Guandi & 4K Club.
The look: You probably saw it with your own eyes - the old Guandi had been leveled down before the new construction started. The new building is now hidden behind a bamboo grove, but you won't miss it with its strong searchlight probing into the sky. The layout is rather straightforward - a huge main room, with a folding screen that cuts it into two (the smaller half at the back will be used for after hour parties), and it is the details that will blow you away. The hanging crystal horse ornament, the mini jacuzzi next to the stage, the traditional Chinese carved patterns on the handrail...All is lavish and fancy. Just one disadvantage: there is no proper dancefloor (unless you are drunk enough to dance on the stage) and the awkwardly placed bartable doesn't give much space for people to mix and mingle. If you want to be comfortable here, the only way seems to be book a table.
The music: Hip hop when the night is young; house and mash-up after midnight. Expect to see pretty girls in Lady Gaga consumes dancing cluelessly on the stage. You can even send a birthday song request to the DJ, and the name of the birthday boy or girl will be shouted out by the MC or even shown on the big screen. Marvelous!
The crowd: It seems Shanghai's beautiful young things have all gathered here. Dress to impress!
The drinks: The most common drinks like whisky or vodka are surprisingly cheap here at 40rmb per glass. But be ready to pay around 1,000rmb if you plan to open a bottle of Champagne.
Why you'll be back: For some decandent fun, such as getting drunk and taking a dip in the jacuzzi. - Stella Shu
