OPEN BAR: FAME
Open Bar: Fame
January 10th, 2010
The buzz: Trendy hip hip club in downtown Shanghai with jaw-dropping decor and eyebrow-raising gimmicks.
The look: At the first glance, Fame does seem to be the kind of exclusive club for the rich and famous with its one-foot-thick metal vault door (imagine all that sweat shed when it's opend by bare hands every night!). But once you step inside, you will instantly feel welcomed at the fluorescent bar. Designed by the French-owned creative studio Lime 388, the interior of Fame is full of stylish details and surprising elements, like a cluster of revolving disco balls above the dancefloor and distorting mirrors on the wall. However, what impresses us the most is the high-tech tables - the dark leather tabletop lights up wherever you touch it, and it's quite a scene when you play dice on it!
The Music: Hip hop, yo! The biggest name it brought in so far was the legendary turntablist Qbert.
The Drinks:The unreasonably short cocktail list is rather disappointing, but you might want to open a bottle after all to fully enjoy the magical tabletop.
The crowd: Eh, is there such as thing as Shanghai's 'bling-bling people'?
Why you'll be back: To watch some famous DJ, or feel famous yourself. - Stella Shu (photos by Lime 388)
