WINK

HedgehogLast week was another good one for live music - Jens Lekman delivered a couple of great performances, even if some people continuously talked through his set at Glamour Bar. Let's hope that they'll be more considerate when another brilliant solo guitarist Jose Gonzales comes to town in a couple of months. The Indie Top showcase finally came around last Friday too. It was extremely well-attended and will hopefully provide the label and the bands with a base to move forward. A lot of the bands had been pushed in quite a poppy direction, but it will be interesting to see where they go from here and how the local scene responds to the developments.

A different crop of young local bands will be at YYT this Friday for the latest 0093 showcase. Beijing's Mimiliang will join our own Red Grid, Moongazer, Sui Guang Pan, and Bang Bang Tang. Entry is ¥40 and things get going around 8pm. Read the First Person with 0093 founder Jiang Shaoqing here.

Saturday sees YYT provide you with a pre-Christmas musical feast. In addition to the oustanding Hedgehog in the evening (supported by Boys Climbing Ropes), there'll be a whole afternoon of live music. Suzhou’s Moye and locals Candy Shop are joined by a host of bands with interesting names: Temple Remains, Fearless, and Screaming Christ. The afternoon activities will begin at 1.30pm and cost you ¥30. Hedgehog's show will be ¥40 and starts at 9pm and they are well worth catching. It's true that the diminutive Atom is amazing on the drums, but singling her out over the rest of the threesome is unfair - they are a tight outfit with a great overall sound and are always entertaining live.

Also on Saturday night, Hunanese alt-rock band Touch hit 021. It's ¥30 and things will kick off at 8.30pm.

While the STD DJs will see the night out at YYT, it'll also be worth heading over to The Shelter where Yeovil's own Mark Pritchard (aka Harmonic 313) will be on the decks. His performance will follow the appearance of Dilated Peoples and Beat Junkies disc jockey Babu. You can read more about these two here and catch an interview with Pritchard in this Friday's magazine.
