Community: Jaiya's Animal Rescue doing their bit for Shanghai’s abandoned dogs and cats

From the number of dogs you see out for their daily walks with their owners around town, you’d come to the conclusion that Shanghai is a city of animal lovers. And while a lot people love their pets, and provide them with food, shelter, and care, there are countless stories of abandonment, mistreatment, and cruelty that result in dogs (and cats) being beaten, starved, or turned loose on the streets to fend for themselves. It’s heartbreaking stuff.

Dining: Cock Fight

There’s trouble in chicken paradise. Feathers are flying. Two rotisseries are going head to head. Will the big boy of Shanghai dining, the prolific Mr. Vargas, come out on top? Or will underdog Zhang and his trusty sidekick Panos steal the crown where crispy wings and juicy thighs are concerned?

One of the best things about Shanghai dining is the sheer number of restaurants. There’s always a new place opening, whether it’s another addition to the Vargas empire, a themed restaurant, or a neighborhood café. Of course, with so many places starting up, the flip side is that less successful places close down, but that’s par for the course here.

Call It Half Price Tuesday!

According to Shanghai  Tourism Bureau, 18 tourist attractions in Shanghai are offering a 50% off discount on their entrance fees every Tuesday from February 24 to April 28. You don't have to show any indentification or papers to get the discount - just go there and pay.

And Then There Was One

There's been a lot of rumbling at Three on the Bund. Internal strife and external rumors. I haven't been able to get to the bottom of what's causing it. Frankly, it's difficult to even tell what the problems are. But here's a fairly dramatic result: Jereme Leung and Three on the Bund have officially parted ways as of Friday, December 19th, 2008.

Last week was another good one for live music - Jens Lekman delivered a couple of great performances, even if some people continuously talked through his set at Glamour Bar.
